IMAGINEERING – DEVELOPING TOMORROW’S ENGINEERS

IMAGINEERING – DEVELOPING TOMORROW’S ENGINEERS

05-Mar-2018 by: Joy Smith IMAGINEERING FOUNDATION

Imagineering has developed a number of STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths) projects, supporting the National Curriculum, introducing 8-16 year olds to today’s fascinating world of engineering and technology through fun hands-on learning, using tools and developing simple skills. The wide range of projects covers various themes including Hydraulics, Electro-Magnetism, Robotics, Flight, Measurement.  They can be delivered in school in class; in a Club environment (see below) or for pupils visiting manufacturing or further education facilities.

STEM learning with Imagineering - options for involvement include:

  • IMAGINEERING CLUBS

Weekly after-school Clubs, (with termly option), operating throughout the academic year, bring the Imagineering ethos and approach direct into schools.  Aimed at 9-13 year olds, the Clubs are run by teachers often with volunteer engineer tutors released by companies.  Pupils are engaged making a series of make-and-take working models from simple kits.

  • THEMED PACKAGES –eg: ELECTROMAGNETISM

A 3-project package with supporting documents, demonstrating principles of electromagnetism through construction of models and the use of tools. Aimed at Key Stages 2/3, these are also ideal walk-in projects for companies to take into schools.

  • IMAGINEERING EVENTS & PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT

Imagineering works in collaboration with a number of corporate stakeholder partners from a range of engineering, manufacturing and education sectors at various public and school events including its own events. The organisations provide exciting, bespoke, hands-on activities for engagement by young visitors and their families with opportunities for them talk to young engineers about their career paths.

Benefits of involvement with this successful initiative include all-inclusive projects to deliver STEM learning; fulfilling community programmes, boost to recruitment, and also professional and personal development for participating staff.
