HAAS AUTOMATION LTD 08 Feb 2012

HAAS Automation the New Generation of CNC at MACH 2012

“MACH 2012 is a very important show for our industry ” says Haas UK managing director, Nick Remington. “Since a very successful MACH 2010, demand for Haas machines has been unprecedented. In 2011 we sold over 12,000 CNC machines.

“Customers are spending longer deciding on which supplier to go with. They are looking at who can provide the best all round package for their business and our research shows that we have increased our market share significantly. Customers are taking into account, value, reliability and service more than ever before and this is where we can demonstrate why Haas is the most popular choice for CNC.

“We’re looking forward to showing visitors to the show how Haas offers award winning support together with great value and is therefore the best choice.”

The Haas Automation stand at MACH 2012 will feature several of the new-generation Haas machines, including three Haas lathes that never have been on show in the UK: the ST-20SS, ST-30Y and ST-40. Also the DT-1 Drill Tap machine and several examples of the latest-generation VF-Series 40 & 50 taper vertical machining centres, Mini Mills and Toolroom Machines will be cutting metal.

The ST-40 is the latest in the range of completely re-engineered Haas lathes and will make its UK show debut at MACH 2012. The new-for-2012 lathe, available for purchase after MACH, offers 648 x 1,118 mm maximum capacity, 1,016 mm of swing and a 30 kW vector drive and 2-speed gearbox providing 2,400rpm.

The ST-10, ST-20SS and ST-30Y, also appearing at the show, are already for sale. The ST-10 is a very compact CNC turning centre with a maximum capacity of 356 x 356 mm and 413 mm of swing. It has a 11.2 kW vector drive giving 6,000 rpm as standard. The ST-20SS is a new Super Speed turning centre with a maximum capacity of 254 x 521 mm, a 5,000 rpm spindle and rapids up to 30.5 m/min. ST-30 Y-axis turning centre provides 101 mm of Y-axis travel (±50,8 mm from the centreline) for off-centre milling, drilling, and tapping, and comes standard with high-torque live tooling and a servo-driven C-Axis for versatile 4-axis capability.

The Haas DT-1 is a high-speed drill and tap machine with full CNC milling capabilities and is undoubtedly one of the company’s most exciting innovations. It has a 508mm x 406mm x 394mm work area and a 660 mm x 381mm T-slot table. A powerful 30-taper spindle provides 12,000rpm and allows tapping at speeds of up to 5,000rpm. The DT-1 also comes with a high-speed 20-pocket tool changer and rapids of 61m/min on all axes. With high acceleration and deceleration rates, cycle times are kept short and non-cutting time is reduced. The DT-1 is the perfect all-round CNC machine tool for the busy general- machining workshop.

The latest Haas high-speed VF-SS models benefit from several productivity-enhancing innovations, including enhanced motion control, better chip evacuation and improved coolant containment. The new 2012 VF machines have also been given a bold and contemporary redesign, plus better fit, feel and ergonomics, to make operation easier and more efficient.

“As well as the latest machine tools, we’ll also exhibit some of Haas’ many, high-productivity, CNC rotary products,” adds Mr Remington. “These are descendents of the products that more than 25 years ago established the southern California based company’s reputation for low-cost, reliable innovation. Many people perhaps do not realise that Haas sells more CNC rotary indexers than almost any other company in the industry.”

One thing that cannot be exhibited at MACH is Haas’ continued investment in arguably the most consistent and responsive customer service and support in the CNC machine tool industry. “Everyone knows that you find the world’s best customer service in California,” says Nick Remington.

“Since the late 1980’s, Haas has brought this same customer-is-king attitude to machine tools and has positively influenced industry standards in every industrial nation where we sell our products. All of our service engineers have fully equipped, rapid-response Mercedes Vito service vans with £30,000 stock of consigned spare parts. If a machine needs technical attention for any reason, our service engineers are located so that they can be on-site within 2-hours for 98% of our UK installations.”
