Shorter delivery time with smart tool design
Why start at square one every time you need to produce a new press hardening tool? This was the reasoning of AP&T's tool designers, who subsequently developed a new module concept for tool design – Modular Design Concept.
Thanks to the concept, which has now been further developed and refined, up to 70 percent of the design can be re-used from one tool to another. This means that design time can be significantly cut, and customers can have their tool delivered much faster than has previously been the case.
"Amongst other things, we have produced tools for several different types of B-pillars with the same basic tool design. We only needed to adapt the forming surface and cooling channels to the unique variety, while the casting part, for example, is the same, says Johan Friberg, Senior Advisor at AP&T.
